Ask TikTok, Putrajaya has no authority to block your account, Saifuddin tells Sanusi
SHAH ALAM – Putrajaya does not have the authority to block any TikTok account as it is not owned by the government but by a technology company from China called Bytedance Ltd, said Home Minister.
Saifuddin Nasution said TikTok, like other social media platforms has its own restrictions and guidelines that users must adhere to.
“Does the Malaysian government have the power to ban our TikTok accounts? The answer is no. If TikTok receives any reports and complaints from other users, it is TikTok that will block the account,” he said in a statement, today.
Saifuddin said this in response to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s claim that Malaysia is heading towards becoming like North Korea under the previous government, Pakatan Harapan (PH), after his TikTok account was blocked.
The electoral director of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) saw the account block as an infringement on media freedom and a disturbance to his party coalition’s efforts to counter attacks from their opponents.

Saifuddin clarified that it was not the government who blocked Sanusi’s TikTok account.
Instead, it was individuals who made reports against the account, leading to its removal.
He disagreed with Sanusi’s comparison to North Korea, stating that the government had more important tasks to focus on.
