TNB contractor dies after being run over by jeep in Kluang

KLUANG: A 23-year-old Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) contractor was killed after being run over by a jeep at KM83 on Jalan Kota Tinggi-Kluang, here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said that the incident occurred at 3pm on Saturday (July 15) and involved a jeep, a car, and a backhoe.

“There were two TNB workers, aged 22 and 23, who were conducting maintenance jobs at the roadside, besides two drivers who had parked their car and backhoe at the location.

“Initial investigations revealed that a jeep driven by a 26-year-old man had come from Kota Tinggi towards Kluang.

“Upon arriving at the location, the jeep driver lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the parked car and backhoe before running over the two workers in the opposite lane,” he said in a statement here on Sunday (July 16).

The impact caused one of the workers, Muhammad Hizran Aiman, 23, to suffer serious injury to the head and was pronounced dead at the location.

The other worker, Amirul Haikal, 22, suffered a minor injury to the left arm and is being treated at Kluang Hospital.

“The drivers of the other vehicles are unharmed, while the jeep driver was arrested to help with the investigations,” he said, adding that the 26-year-old tested negative for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act of 1987.
