KOTA KINABALU: Some of the MPs who left PKR in the Sheraton Move did not sign a bond with the party, says Rafizi Ramli.

The PKR deputy president said that not all in the group of deserters had signed a bond with the party.

“I have yet to check with the secretary-general but to my recollection, there were some who signed while others refused to do so,” he told reporters after the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) midterm review engagement session here on Tuesday (June 27).

“At the time, the group was led by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali. Azmin himself did not want to sign (the bond) as far as I can remember. So I’m not sure how many of the 10 signed.

“Whether the court decision means those who did not put down their signature could also be sued, I am not sure.

“PKR lawyer William Leong will give his views to the party later on what the next action or move should be,” said Rafizi, who is also the Economy Minister.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court had last Friday (June 23) ordered the former PKR vice-president to pay the sum to the party for breaching a bond with it following her involvement in the infamous political move in 2020.

In his decision, Justice Akhtar Tahir said the bond signed by Zuraida on April 25, 2018, was a valid and binding contract.

The former minister was also ordered to pay RM50,000 in costs to PKR.

After the ruling, Zuraida said the fight was not over and she would appeal the decision.

PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, who is currently Home Minister, sued Zuraida on behalf of PKR on Sept 28, 2020.

In the statement of claim, Saifuddin Nasution said Zuraida had executed a bond through which she was bound to pay the party a sum of RM10mil in accordance with its terms and conditions.

According to the statement of claim, Zuraida, together with 10 other PKR MPs, announced her departure from the party without resigning from her elected post of Ampang MP on Feb 24, 2020.

Saifuddin Nasution added that Zuraida, together with the other MPs, Bersatu, Barisan Nasional, PAS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak and others then formed a new bloc known as Perikatan Nasional.
