MCA sitting out KKB by-election will work in PN’s favour, says Sanusi
PETALING JAYA: MCA’s decision not to campaign in the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election will be an advantage for Perikatan Nasional, says PN election director Sanusi Nor.
The Kedah menteri besar also said PN is ready to further exploit the cracks in the relationship between MCA and Pakatan Harapan ahead of the May 11 by-election.
“The relationship is already fractured, and we will split it further. That’s politics,” he said in a Berita Harian report.
Sanusi also said he would accept whoever PN decides to nominate for the by-election, stating that his suggestion for a Malay candidate was his personal view.
On April 19, MCA said it will sit out the polls if the unity government’s candidate does not come from Barisan Nasional.

Although MIC president SA Vigneswaran was previously reported as saying his party will also stay on the sidelines, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim yesterday dismissed such reports as being inaccurate.
Last night, BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Anwar, who is also the PH chairman, would meet MCA leaders to discuss the party’s position.
The by-election is being held following the death of DAP assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong on March 21.
BN had previously agreed to respect the agreement that the incumbent party should be given priority to field a candidate.
