‘As good as a January signing’… Paul Merson says Tottenham have just received a ‘big boost’

Tottenham made two signings in the January transfer window in the shape of Radu Dragusin and Timo Werner.
While it’s an old cliché, you’d have to say that Spurs were the winners of the transfer window this time around, but the two new additions to the team may not even be the biggest boost Tottenham have received recently.
Indeed, writing in his column on SportsKeeda, Paul Merson has been talking up the return of James Maddison from injury, and he reckons that the midfielder’s return to the fold is as big a boost as any signing made in January.
Maddison return a huge boost
Merson shared his verdict on Maddison’s return.
“James Maddison’s return has been a big boost for them – it’s as good as a January signing for Ange Postecoglou. You can see the way he lifts the fans and everyone around him – he was fantastic against Brentford after the manager put him in the hole behind Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison in the second half,” Merson wrote.

This is a massive boost for Tottenham, that’s for sure.
It’s been a while since we’ve seen Maddison in this team, but we mustn’t forget that he was Spurs’ best player when he was fit and firing.
He was so effective in that number 10 role linking play, setting things up and even scoring goals of his own.
Maddison was utterly brilliant during the opening weeks of the season, and if he can rediscover that sort of form and hit the ground running as he did upon his initial arrival, then Spurs should be able to kick up a notch and put in the types of performances that saw them flying high at the top of the league when Maddison initially went down with his injury.
