Funeral Services Cartel: 3 health officers get jail, fined, and earful from judge for accepting graft
SHAH ALAM: Three health officers from Hospital Serdang got an earful from a Sessions Court judge here today after they pleaded guilty to accepting bribes for funeral arrangement services.
Judge Rozilah Salleh reminded the trio – Mohd Shah Rizan Yasak, 43; Mohd Riduan Ibrahim, 41 and Muhamad Yusri Yusof, 36, that it is a sin for Muslims to accept bribes.
“You have a very noble job and are expected to reject any bribes offered to you.
“It is okay to get less salary as long as the money is clean.
“God gives you the brain to think what is right and wrong. May this sentence be a lesson to you,” she said.
Crying in the dock, the trio pleaded for a minimum sentence stating that they were remorseful and promised not to repeat the mistake again.
Shah Rizan was sentenced to five months in jail for accepting RM6,250 bribes from Nur Fattah Training & Consultancy as an inducement to award funeral services to the company.
Mohd Riduan was sentenced to four months in jail and RM10,000 fines for accepting RM3,550 bribes from the same company between March 2018 and July 2019.
Muhamad Yusri was sentenced to three months in jail and RM5,000 fines for accepting RM1,100 bribes from the same company.

They were charged under Section 165 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum of two years’ imprisonment or a fine or both, upon conviction.
Meanwhile, another accused Hairul Nizam Idris, 39, pleaded not guilty to the same offence.
He was alleged to have committed the offence at a bank in Kajang between April 20 and 23, 2018.
His charges were framed under Section 17(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, which carries a maximum of 20 years jail, a fine amounting to no more than five times the amount of bribes received, or whichever is higher, upon conviction.
The court set RM6,000 bail against the accused and ordered him to surrender his passport until the disposal of the case.
The court fixed March 17 for mention.
