KOTA KINABALU: A civil servant in Beluran was detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission
for bribing a person to withdraw a police report lodged against the former.
The man in his 40s was arrested today after giving a statement at the Sandakan MACC branch.
A source said the civil servant is being investigated by police under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
On Oct 30, 2021, the suspect had given RM7,000 to the complainant as inducement for the police report to be withdrawn.
Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy Y. Subbiah, who confirmed the arrest, said the case is investigated under Section 16(b)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
He added that the suspect was later released on RM10,000 MACC bail with surety in the form of a RM1,000 deposit.
“The suspect is scheduled to be charged at the Sandakan Special Corruption Court soon,” he said.
