It’s character assassination, says PN woman

KULAI: Investigations into Bersatu, including those into its president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, are a waste of time, says Johor Perikatan Nasional Wanita chief Datuk Azlinda Abdul Latif.

She called the investigations a “character assassination” of Muhyiddin by the Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional-led unity government.

“In both Barisan and Pakatan’s manifestos, we were convinced that they would not carry out revenge politics or find fault with the previous government under Muhyiddin.

“But now they are putting pressure to ‘kill off’ Muhyiddin’s character, even though he has sacrificed everything in his struggle for integrity, abuse of power and kleptocracy.

“Why waste time attempting to assassinate a leader’s character when we can use this valuable time to focus on the best steps in saving Malaysia?” she said at a press conference held at the Johor Perikatan headquarters in Senai here yesterday.

Azlinda, who is also a Bersatu supreme council member, said the party would not hesitate to lodge police reports against accusations of power abuse hurled at Muhyiddin.

Azlinda, who served as Muhyiddin’s political secretary during his tenure as prime minister, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should also conduct a comprehensive investigation into allegations of big spending by Barisan and Pakatan during the last general election.

“If it (MACC) wants to investigate, then it is better to investigate all political parties that contested in the 15th General Election and not just Bersatu,” she said.
