KOTA KINABALU: City police are intensifying patrols following viral videos of kids causing a nuisance here.

Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda said the force would extend its Ops Payung operations and deploy the mobile patrol vehicle (MPV) as well as motorcycle patrol unit (URB) at all locations.

“Apart from police patrols, we will also have walkabouts with other agencies, including the Kota Kinabalu City Hall, the immigration, Sabah Social Welfare Department, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and the auxiliary police,” he said on Saturday (May 18).

Kasim said the incident in the video happened on May 4 following a misunderstanding between two groups of kids.

The video showed a group of children standing in front of the general market while another group gathered at a small roundabout nearby.

The two groups of children clashed. Some were seen armed with sticks and threw them at each other.

“Since this concerns children, we would refer the issue to the Sabah Social Welfare Department for the next course of action,” he said.

Another video shows a boy who is believed to be sniffing glue. Kasim said they would investigate the matter.
