Imam dies after Friday prayers
KOTA BHARU – Mahmudi Mukim Kedai Melor Mosque’s Imam dies after finishing the Friday khutbah and prayers here.
The senior imam Mohd Zamai @ Suhaimi Ibrahim, 73, collapsed after the prayers at about 2pm.
Padang Raja Village chief Fadli Shah Ismail said he had delivered the independence-themed Friday khutbah and led the prayers to around 700 makmum (congregation) in the mosque.
He said Zamai, after his sunat prayer had collapsed to the left after giving his salam.
“The congregation in the mosque offered their aid and contacted an ambulance.
“Medical officers from the Mahligai Melor Clinic checked his conditions and confirmed he had passed,” he said when contacted by Sinar on Friday.
Fadli Shah said Zamai’s body was sent to his home in a hearse owned by the Mahmudi Mukim Kedai Melor Mosque.
He said Zamai had served for 20 years as the senior imam in the mosque.
“The jenazah prayers would be held in the mosque after Isya and the burial would be done at the Mahligai Cemetery,” he said.
