KUALA LUMPUR: Hasbie Muda was re-elected as Amanah Youth chief this evening after finishing top among 27 candidates in the youth wing elections.

Hasbie, a senator, was chosen for the post by the national Amanah committee after he secured 387 votes, topping the list of candidates seeking Youth wing leadership positions.

Batu Tiga assemblyman Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid came in second, with 368 votes. He will be the Youth deputy chief.

Faris Ariffin, Ammar Atan and Zulhazmi Hassan were appointed as Youth vice-chiefs.

In his speech, Hasbie said the youth wing will do its best to strengthen the party at every level.

He also vowed that the wing would not appoint the state youth chiefs in haste.

“We will also provide our best commitment throughout the three-year mandate.”

Vote counting for the election was delayed earlier today after the number of ballots cast did not tally with the number of delegates.

Next week, a total of 124 candidates will contest the 27 positions in the central committee, including the top two posts of president and deputy president.

Among the contenders are party president Mohamad Sabu, vice-presidents Mujahid Yusof Rawa and Adly Zahari, as well as the party’s strategic director Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Amanah’s five top posts, including that of president, will be determined by consensus among the 27 leadership committee members elected by the delegates.

The party president is limited to three consecutive terms.

The deputy president’s post has been vacant following the death of Salahuddin Ayub in July.
