Cops arrest man over road rage in Johor

Police here have arrested a man in his 40s for allegedly driving recklessly in Jalan Genuang.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the man was arrested at 2.30pm at his house on Friday (Feb 16) after a video went viral on social media.

“The initial investigation found that the incident occurred on Feb 9 at 7.40am when the victim, a 40-year-old man, was driving towards Bandar Segamat from Buloh Kasap.

“His vehicle was then approached by another vehicle that intentionally stopped in front of him, causing the victim’s passengers to fall from their seats. The suspect can be seen stopping his car multiple times and obstructing other road users,” he said in a statement on Saturday (Feb 17).

Supt Ahmad added that during the incident, the victim had also insulted the suspect verbally, causing the man to come out of his car with a steering lock in his hand.

“Our interrogation revealed that the suspect confessed to having made an abrupt stop with his vehicle, and he said that he brought his steering lock as he was enraged with what the victim had said,” said Supt Ahmad.

“Both the victim and the suspect lodged a police report on Feb 9 and Feb 16,” he said, adding that the suspect has been released on police bail.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 279 of the Penal Code for rash and negligent driving.

Earlier, a one-minute and 44-second video went viral showing a white car being driven dangerously. The video ended with the driver coming out of his vehicle with a steering lock in his hand.
