KJ takes swipe at Fahmi over PJD Link cancellation
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has criticised government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil for his announcement of the cancellation of the Petaling Jaya Dispersal Link (PJD Link) highway project.
In his latest “Keluar Sekejap” podcast, the former health minister expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of detailed information regarding compensation to the developer and alternative solutions to address traffic issues following the cancellation.
“When making significant announcements like this, it’s essential to provide comprehensive details, particularly concerning compensation.
“Second, the PJD Link project was said to be a solution to the traffic congestion (so) the government must now explain what the next steps are to address the traffic problem amid the cancellation.
“If you make such a big decision, you can’t announce it just like that. Even a schoolboy can do that. It’s not even his brief, and he doesn’t have the expertise to answer questions.”

Khairy added that the announcement should have come from the minister responsible for the project.
On April 17, Fahmi announced that the cabinet decided not to proceed with the PJD Link highway construction project.
He said the decision was made after the concessionaire failed to meet six of the 11 conditions.
A day later, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said it was uncertain whether the government needed to compensate the developer for the cancellation.
Meanwhile, a residents’ group in Petaling Jaya urged the government to reconsider the cancellation, citing the project’s importance in addressing congestion caused by population growth in the area.
