KLANG: Pahang assembly speaker Sharkar Shamsudin revealed that state executive councillor Johari Harun was returning from an official trip to Langkawi when the light aircraft he boarded crashed in Selangor earlier today.

“He was on an official trip to meet the (Pahang) menteri besar there and was heading back to the Subang airport,” Sharkar told reporters at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang.

He also said Pahang menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail will arrive at the hospital shortly, adding that the state government will cover the expenses for Johari’s burial.

So far, only Johari has been confirmed as one of the 10 who died in the crash involving a Beechcraft Model 390 aircraft near Elmina, Selangor.

Others on board the plane have been identified as pilots Shahrul Kamal Roslan and Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, as well as passengers, Kharil Azwan Jamaludin, Shaharul Amir Omar, Naim Fawwaz Muaidi, Taufiq Zaki and Idris Abdol Talib @ Ramali.

Sharkar also said he was supposed to meet Johari last night for a routine meeting with executive councillors held every Wednesday.

“But he did not respond (to my call), and we received this news (today).”

Asked about the Pahang government’s next move, he said: “We want to attend to his funeral arrangements first.

“The Election Commission will handle the rest.”
