Saifuddin commends police for swift arrest in KLIA shooting case
KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has commended the police on the swift arrest of the suspect involved in the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 shooting.
“Congratulations to the police on their efficiency in arresting the KLIA shooting suspect earlier today,” he wrote on Facebook.
Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, confirmed the arrest, saying the suspect was apprehended at a location in Kota Baru at around 3pm earlier today.
Previously, police had sought information from family members and acquaintances of the suspect, Hafizul Harawi, who fled after opening fire at the KLIA Terminal 1 yesterday, to locate his whereabouts.
Razarudin said that police had also tightened control at the border including the rat trails to prevent Hafizul from fleeing to a neighbouring country.
He added that the man’s photographs had also been distributed at all entry points in the north of the Peninsula and to the authorities of a neighbouring country.
In the 1.30am incident yesterday, a man fired two shots, one of which hit his wife’s bodyguard.
The victim is currently being treated at a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
