GUA MUSANG: Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud has dismissed former Nenggiri assemblyman Azizi Abu Naim’s claim that he never received any allocations from the state government when he was an assemblyman.

Azizi had challenged the PAS-led state government to provide proof that it provided him with allocations, stating that he used his own money to help the residents until he received allocations from the unity government.

Nassuruddin said Azizi was allocated more than RM700,000 through the district office to assist the residents this year, but he only used 10% of the funds provided.

“(The state government) provided RM713,500 to the Nenggiri state constituency … and that’s just for this year,” Nassuruddin said at Kampung Pasir Tumboh here ahead of the Nenggiri by-election.
“(According to my calculations), so far, he only used RM72,000, which is 10%.

“We already gave all the assemblymen their allocations, so why didn’t he (Azizi) use it? (Instead), he creates stories that the state government doesn’t provide allocations. That’s a lie.

“(Azizi) also said the state government channels funds through the state assembly coordinator. Doesn’t he know that area has no such coordinator?”

Nassuruddin described Azizi’s allegations as an excuse to “justify” his decision to support the government led by Anwar Ibrahim, adding that responsible leaders would uphold the trust of the people and remain loyal to their party, even when facing challenges.

Bersatu terminated Azizi’s membership in June for failing to declare his loyalty to the party and for supporting the prime minister.

Azizi, who is also the Gua Musang MP, is among six Bersatu MPs who pledged support for Anwar.

The others are Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

Kelantan assembly speaker Amar Abdullah declared the Nenggiri state seat vacant on June 19 after being notified that Azizi had ceased to be a member of Bersatu.

The Nenggiri by-election on Aug 17 will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Azmawi Fikri Abdul Ghani and Bersatu’s Rizwadi Ismail, representing Perikatan Nasional. Rizwadi recently joined Bersatu from PAS.

BN won the Nenggiri seat for four consecutive elections from 2004 before losing it to PN in last year’s state election when Azizi defeated Umno’s Ab Aziz Yussof with a majority of 810 votes.
