Gua Musang DAP Youth files report against PAS member over ‘kafir harbi’ remark

PETALING JAYA: Gua Musang DAP Youth has lodged a police report against a PAS member featured in a viral video who labelled the party “kafir harbi” (belligerent infidels) during a recent Perikatan Nasional ceramah for the Nenggiri by-election.

Gua Musang Youth chief Nor Amin Shafiq Ismail said he was accompanied by Kelantan Pakatan Harapan Youth leaders when he filed the report at the Gua Musang police headquarters earlier today

He urged the police to investigate the remarks for the criminal offence of causing disharmony, division, or enmity based on religion. He also called on the police to take firm action to ensure that such toxic politicking is not continued.

Amin said the PAS member’s remarks could damage national unity and threaten national harmony which had been built on the foundation of tolerance and mutual respect.

Amin said remarks such as the one in the video were irresponsible and dangerous.

“They use religion as a political tool, something that is prohibited and unacceptable in our society. This remark also has the potential to cause tension and division among Malaysians of different faiths,” he said.

Earlier today Perikatan Nasional said the PAS member who used the “kafir harbi” remark had been suspended.

Annuar Musa, PN’s elections director in Nenggiri, said the suspension was made to calm the situation following the controversy. He said there was no need for an apology, and no need for PAS to apologise to DAP because the matter was “subjective” in politics.

He also said the utterance by the PAS member was made in a personal capacity, and did not represent the views of the party.
