Use a calculator, Rauf tells Annuar on two mil members leave Umno claim

ALOR GAJAH – Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh describes the claims of over two million members leaving the party as irrelevant.

He said Muafakat Nasional (MN) president Tan Sri Annuar Musa should use a political calculator before he made such provocations and statements towards the party.

He said when he took up his post as Umno’s Works Secretary, it was estimated that the party had 3.3 million members and if the alleged two million members left the party, certainly several Umno branches would be dissolved.

“Surely, if two million out of three million members left, we would have the closure of a third of the Umno branches across Malaysia.

“If that’s what was said then I would like to remind my brother Annuar if you want to provoke, use the best political calculator,” he said.

He said this to reporters after he delivered the phase two and three One-Off Cost of Living Incentive Payment to 316 fishermen at the Japerun Complex Tanjung Bidara.

Also present were Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security Exco Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh and State Rural Development, Agriculture and Food Security deputy Exco Low Chee Leong.

The media on Saturday reported the former Umno secretary-general’s statement that two million members had left the party and he claimed Umno was no longer the people’s choice.

In another development, Ab Rauf who was the Chief Minister hoped the six other states facing elections soon could take the example of Melaka who had a combination of several political parties in their administration including BN and PH.
