Cops urge those who found missing explosives to come forward

SHAH ALAM: Police have urged anyone with information on the box of explosives that fell off a pick-up truck or who may have picked it up to come forward immediately.

Selangor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk S. Sasikala Devi also reminded the public that possessing the missing explosives was illegal.

“We wish to remind those possessing such substances or materials that they could be liable under Section 8 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958,” she told reporters on Monday (Nov 20).

It was reported that a box containing explosives is believed to have fallen off a vehicle while it was being transported to a quarry in Puchong on Nov 14.

Police received a report at 10.28pm on the day of the incident from a 28-year-old man who suspected the explosives had accidentally fallen off the truck while he was on his way to the quarry.

While the complainant and his friend were on the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway, the complainant noticed a vehicle behind flashing a sign that their truck’s tailgate was open.

The complainant stopped the vehicle and closed the tailgate quickly because of the heavy traffic without realising that some cargo had fallen out.

At 8.25am, the complainant and his friend arrived at the location and, while unloading the goods, realised that a 400g box of cast booster explosives was missing.

He then retraced his route but could not find the box.

DCP Sasikala Devi said police have taken the statements of two individuals so far.

“We also asked the highway operator to help with CCTV footage from the area.

“We believe the box fell out on a stretch where there are no cameras,” she added.

She urged those with information on the incident or the ones who found the explosives to contact the nearest police station or Sergeant Zulfadzly, the investigating officer, at 016-412 3834.
