Critics of unity pact are hypocrites, says Fahmi
PETALING JAYA: Critics of the political agreement in support of Anwar Ibrahim’s unity government have been taken to task as hypocrites for having been part of a similar previous agreement.
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said some of the critics were party to drafting the agreement between Pakatan Harapan and the previous government of Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
“I didn’t hear any claims of unconstitutionality or questions of authoritarianism or dictatorial inclinations when similar clauses were laid out then,” he said. “Those who now cry out such things are political hypocrites.”
Members of the opposition have questioned the constitutionality of the agreement signed on Friday by five party leaders to form a unity government.
Fahmi said PH had signed the agreement at the time in the interest of maintaining political stability.
However, there was now a consensus in support of Anwar expressed in a confidence motion in the Dewan Rakyat, said Fahmi, who is communications and digital minister in Anwar’s Cabinet.
The Dewan Rakyat motion was adopted by acclamation while the opposition did not call for a bloc vote by division.
