Woman who drives A-Class Mercedes caught for avoiding paying toll charges 45 times

KUALA LUMPUR: Could the secret to being able to afford a luxury vehicle be having the ability to avoid paying toll charges?

Avoiding tolled roads is one way, perhaps, but a woman who drives an A-Class Mercedes-Benz went a different route and somehow managed to avoid paying toll fees at a Projek Lintasan Kota Holdings Sdn Bhd (Prolintas) expressway 45 times.

Prolintas, in a series of postings on social media, said the woman was finally stopped at a toll plaza recently.

While it did not state how she managed to avoid paying toll fees, it is understood that some people are able to do it by driving their vehicles close to the vehicle in front while going through the toll gate barrier.

Prolintas’ Twitter posting said the woman, when stopped, agreed to settle the RM275.65 in toll charges she had accrued. She was then allowed to continue on her way.

The highway concessionaire advised all motorists not to follow the woman’s actions as it was not only illegal but also puts other motorists in danger.

Netizens, however, said Prolintas had let the woman off too easy and urged the company to make such motorists pay more.

Twitter user @AmirulHazmi said: “Should have made her pay 10 times the amount, plus a night in jail. Only then will she learn.”

User @nightneattt, however, suggested the amount should be tripled.

“Should start issuing fines (as well) so that they will be afraid. If they only have to pay the amount owed, they can afford it but they will still want free things,” said @nurzack04.
