KUALA LUMPUR: The august House was left in shock when doctors were ordered to examine Gerik MP Fathul Huzir Ayob after he suffered some speech difficulties during his debates in Parliament.

The MP started his speech in a normal manner but could be seen becoming physically uncomfortable about five minutes into his debates.

He was touching on several matters on rural development, inflation and border issues affecting roads in Gerik when he appeared distressed.

He was also seen fidgeting with his necktie and loosening it.

He continued with his speech but began covering his mouth with his right hand while slurring some of his words.

Deputy Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor then intervened asking him whether he was able to continue.

He then took a short breather before several MPs, including Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, asked whether he was alright.

“Call the doctor in,” said Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka).

Fathul Huzir apologised, saying that he was being too emotional and proceeded to deliver his speech while untying his necktie.

“Speaker, I think we should give him space,” said Datuk Willie Mongin (GPS-Puncak Borneo).

Ramli then told Fathul Huzir that he can see the doctor at the Parliament clinic if he was unwell.

“The Sergeant-at-Arms, please assist Gerik to the doctor,” said Ramli.

Outside the House, Fathul Huzir was seen pushed in a wheelchair heading towards the Parliament clinic and was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
