PUTRAJAYA: Education minister Fadhlina Sidek has stood firm against calls to review the Dual Language Programme’s guidelines, saying its implementation aligns with her ministry’s goal to uphold Malay and strengthen the command of English.

“We have maintained our decision every time we were asked. There are guidelines that need to be adhered to,” Bernama reported her as saying after delivering her new year message at the ministry today.

In December, the ministry permitted full implementation of the DLP in five Kuala Lumpur schools – SK Convent Bukit Nanas (1), SK Bukit Damansara, SJKT Vivekananda, SJKT Segambut and SJKT Ladang Edinburgh.

Fadhlina also said her ministry is monitoring the Identity Management (iDME) system to ensure optimal performance.

She said the ministry is also working to improve the system used by teachers to fill in test scores.

“Our monitoring is very strict, and improvements are made as needed. This thorough monitoring is essential as we recognise that our teachers and clients rely extensively on iDME to assess our children,” she said.

It was reported yesterday that the National Union of the Teaching Profession has asked the ministry to reconsider iDME’s usage, proposing a preliminary test before issuing directives to teachers.
