14 Covid-19 deaths on Saturday

14 people died from Covid-19 yesterday (Jan 22), raising the nationwide death toll to 31,882.

According to data from CovidNow and Github, Johor, Kedah, Perak, Selangor and Terengganu had two deaths each.

Melaka, Sabah, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur reported one death each.

In the past two weeks, five deaths per million people in Malaysia were recorded with Terengganu the highest among the states with 15 deaths per million people.

Malaysia reported 4,116 fresh cases yesterday bringing the overall caseload to 2,829,089 since the pandemic broke last year.

Hospital bed utilisation showed four states reporting utilisation above 70 per cent as of yesterday.

The highest bed usage is in Melaka with 77.1 per cent followed by Kedah at 74.2 per cent.

Bed occupancy in Johor is at 71.6 per cent, and Terengganu (70.2 per cent).

Bed utilisation for Covid-19 patients in other states was between 28.9 and 67.7 per cent with the national average at 63.8 per cent.

In terms of intensive care unit (ICU) utilisation rate for Covid-19 cases, Kuala Lumpur was the highest at 80.2 per cent.

The rate at other states was between 31.2 per cent and 66.2 per cent with the national average at 51.8 per cent.

Overall active Covid-19 cases was 44,088 after 2,858 more recoveries were reported yesterday.

There are 37,167 people who are observing home quarantine, making up 84.3 per cent of the total active cases in the country.

Authorities recorded 3,890 patients or 8.8 per cent being treated at Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres (PKRC), 6.6 per cent (2,890) are hospitalised and the remaining 0.3 per cent are at intensive care units (ICU) with 79 unventilated and 62 ventilated.

On vaccination, the Health Ministry reported that 10,561,588 booster shots have been administered so far.
