State polls: DAP gives up claim on two seats in Selangor

KLANG: Seat negotiations between Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional are still ongoing with party leaders hoping to settle it as soon as possible.

According to sources, there are about three to four seats that both sides want.

Apparently DAP, which had initially wanted 18 seats before Barisan came into the picture, has given up two seats.

“The DAP has given up its request for the Selat Kelang and Semenyih seats and will only contest 16 of the seats it won in the previous general election,” said a Pakatan insider.

The insider said DAP wanted both the Malay-majority Selat Kelang and Semenyih seats for its Malay members to contest.

In the last polls, DAP contested in 16 state constituencies and won all but lost the Teratai seat after its incumbent Bryan Lai resigned from the party due to some personal problems.

According to the Pakatan insider, Barisan was haggling for some of the incumbent DAP seats for its component parties.

“But DAP is not budging and is determined to defend all of its 15 seats as well as retake Teratai which it lost on a technicality after Lai resigned,” said the insider.

The insider also said Barisan had also requested the Sungai Kandis, Tanjong Sepat and Dengkil seats.

The incumbents for the Sungai Kandis and Tanjong Sepat seats were PKR’s Mohd Zawawi Mughni and Borhan Aman Shah respectively whilst the Dengkil seat belonged to Bersatu’s Adhif Syan Abdullah.

“PKR has agreed to not contest for the Dengkil seat to make way for Barisan but how can they give up the Sungai Kandis and Tanjong Sepat seats as both the incumbents are exco members,” said the insider.
