‘They will use their two-thirds power to redraw constituency borders’ – Muhyiddin

JOHOR BAHRU – The victory of Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Pulai Parliamentary by-election holds significant importance in preventing arbitrary amendments to the constitution, particularly the issue of redelineation, according to its chairman, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The PN Chairman stressed that the current government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim already controls two-thirds of the 148 seats in Parliament, including the Pulai Parliament seat.

“If PN emerges victorious in the Pulai Parliamentary by-election on Sept 9, it will deny the government’s two-thirds majority in Parliament, which will have a substantial impact on the issue of constitutional amendments,” he said at a dialogue session with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Kempas here today.

Also present were Gerakan President Datuk Dominic Lau, Johor PN Chairman, Datuk Sahruddin Jamal, Perkasa President, Syed Hassan Syed Ali and Ummah Defender Gerakan Chairman, Zai Mustapha.

Muhyiddin expressed concerns about the potential redrawing of electoral boundaries during this term.

He stressed that if any such changes do not benefit the voters, especially the Malays, it could have negative consequences for the future of the Malay community.

The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) President also expressed confidence in the PN machinery’s performance in the Pulai Parliamentary and Simpang Jeram State Assembly by-elections.

He noted that the campaign efforts have received an extraordinary reception, and he remains confident that voters will continue to support PN candidate Zulkifli Jaafar in the Pulai Parliament and Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya in the Simpang Jeram State Assembly.

“I will continue to support the candidates through the upcoming campaign activities,” he added.
