Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal are now targeting two ‘very big’
Mikel Arteta

Fabrizio Romano has now been sharing some exciting plans Mikel Arteta has for his Arsenal side in the coming summer transfer window.

Having almost laid dormant in January, Arteta is expected to oversee some significant changes to his squad in the off-season.

Much akin to last summer, Arsenal fans will probably expect their side to go about their business early in swift and efficient fashion.

And in truth, even with a lot of football left to play this season, progress is probably already being made behind the scenes.

Fans may feel that Arsenal will target a new striker, a new midfielder and a defender to add better strength in depth at the back. And when speaking on ‘The Here We Go Podcast’, Fabrizio Romano confirmed that two of those positions could be subject to ‘very big investment’.

Romano was originally discussing Arsenal’s interest in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen this summer, and then confirmed that Arteta will be targeting big signings in two different areas.

Fabrizio Romano says Arsenal will invest big money into a midfielder and striker this summer

The journalist explained that Arsenal are monitoring a number of strikers right now, but they may end up investing the majority of their funds into a midfielder.

Romano said: “The expectation is for Victor Osimhen to go, this is a very clear message that we are getting.

“So the idea is for Victor Osimhen to try a new chapter, we know there is interest since a long time from Chelsea, there is interest also since long time from Arsenal, we heard about [Viktor] Gyokeres, Arsenal are monitoring different strikers.

“Let’s see if Osimhen will be too expensive because Arsenal want to do a very big investment also in the midfield.

“Keep an eye on Arsenal this summer because in the midfield and in the striker position they want to invest important money.”

Of course, this will surely be very welcome news from an Arsenal fan point of view.

Romano’s words may not be too surprising, Arsenal were always expected to invest heavily this summer, but they certainly bode reason for fans to be excited.

It seems regardless of what is achieved this season, Arsenal will still look to be ambitious in the market, Edu Gaspar and his team seem so determined to keep progressing.

All that being said, Chris Wilder has now been saying some kind words about Mikel Arteta before the two managers face each other tonight.
