KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 — An 80 kilogramme python, measuring about seven metres, has been caught by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel after the reptile swallowed a pet monkey belonging to a villager in Baling, Kedah.
Baling district APM officer Leftenan (PA) Mohd. Faizol Aziz said the reptile was caught by four of its personnel after receiving a distress call from a villager at Kampung Sera Ulu.
“The recent heavy rain may be the reason why huge snakes are trespassing into human habitat.”
“In October alone, APM Baling had received 65 cases related to the finding of snakes,” Utusan quoted Mohd. Faizol as saying.
Berita Harian quoted Mohd. Faizol as saying that after catching the python, it was taken back to their office for further actions.
He urged the people to contact them at 04-4701626 (24 hours) or 999 for assistance if they encounter similar incidents.
The monkey’s owner Abdul Majid Ishak, 66, told Utusan that he realised his pet went missing about 8.30am yesterday when he wanted to feed the mammal, which he had been caring for the past six years.
“I was shocked to see it was not in its cage and after a short search, I found the python vomiting the monkey at the back of my house,” he said, adding that the monkey is used by him to pluck coconut for him to sell.
