PETALING JAYA: Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar says he will be using his own money, vehicles and materials, as well as that of PAS’, to campaign in the Kemaman parliamentary by-election.

The Perikatan Nasional candidate rubbished allegations from Barisan Nasional that he would use the state government’s machinery to campaign for the seat.

“I am using my own car, not the MB’s car, in this campaign. I am going to be as practical as I can. The methods that I use to reach the voters would not belong to the state but to PAS and me,” the PAS vice-president told The Star.

“As Kemaman is prone to floods, I have had offers to use boats belonging to other PAS and Perikatan leaders.

“As a matter of fact, Tan Sri Annuar Musa has offered his boat for campaigning purposes,” said Samsuri, referring to the party central committee member.

Ahmad Samsuri said that in actual fact, he was the one up against the might of the Federal Government as his opponent Jen (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed represents the Madani administration.

Meanwhile, PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said floods would not be a big concern during the campaign period had the government completed several mitigation projects that he had earlier proposed.

“Kemaman has always been prone to big floods during the east coast monsoon season,” said the former environment and water minister.

“Putrajaya should speed up the projects I had proposed. All the studies had been completed and the processes to carry the projects out are in place.”

Tuan Ibrahim also urged the Election Commission to put in contingency plans during polling day as schools that were usually flood relief shelters had to also be used as polling centres.

“During floods, we will campaign a bit differently as our priority remains the safety of the people and saving lives. PAS has all the party apparatus for campaigning during floods,” he said.

The Kemaman by-election was called following a ruling by the Terengganu Election Court on Sept 26 nullifying Perikatan’s GE15 victory.
