PETALING JAYA: Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid says he will not entertain Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s call for him to vacate his seat after he pledged to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

The Bersatu MP stressed that as an elected representative, his job is to effectively assist his constituents, Sinar Harian reported.

“Let him make that statement as the deputy president of Bersatu; I would rather assist the people who need my help as the MP,” he was quoted as saying.

Apart from Iskandar, four other Perikatan Nasional MPs, all from Bersatu, have recently backed Anwar.

They are Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), and Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang).

On Nov 25, Faizal said he made a mistake in choosing certain candidates to contest in the 15th general election (GE15). He said this resulted in the betrayal of the party by, among others, Iskandar, his former political secretary.

Iskandar said he has received an allocation from the unity government, but refused to disclose the amount of funds obtained.

He said that with the allocation received, he could implement plans to boost the area’s economy, improve infrastructure, and provide welfare and education assistance that were previously not possible.

“I hope the residents of Kuala Kangsar cooperate with me. I want to use the allocations I have been given for the benefit of my constituents,” he said.
