KUALA LUMPUR: A gang of robbers have been targeting social media influencers, who flaunt their wealth on various social media platforms.

It is believed the same gang was responsible for the RM3.5mil robbery at a house of a businesswoman in Padang Balang, Sentul on Sunday (March 3).

The gang, which consisted of three women and a man, would monitor activities of influencers in picking their targets.

One of the suspects would monitor the victim’s activities. The male suspect would then enter the victim’s house when the occupants were not home.

Their activities were exposed when a team from the Gombak district police headquarters detained the suspects in Johor Baru on Wednesday (March 6).

“We received a report about a break-in at an influencer’s home in Rawang earlier this month.

“Our investigation led us to track down and detain the suspects in Johor Baru as they were selling gold bars.

“We also seized several valuables, including luxury handbags, believed to be stolen,” Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said when contacted.

“The suspects have been remanded until Tuesday (March 12) and will be handed over to the Wangsa Maju police once their remand ends,” he said.

Wangsa Maju OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah previously said the incident occurred between 10pm and midnight on Sunday when the businesswoman and her family were not at home.
