PN resolutions depict unhealthy situation
SHAH ALAM – The 19th and 20th resolutions agreed upon in the Perikatan Nasional elected representatives’ convention are not new but rather illustrate an unhealthy situation in Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).
Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi claimed that the unhealthy situation was the reason why seven representatives from the bloc declared their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
“The support of six MPs and an assemblyman for Anwar and Amirudin explains the unhealthy situation within Bersatu.
“This situation can also erode the confidence of Pas and consequently disrupt the unity within PN if left unaddressed,” he told Sinar.
He was commenting on two out of 20 resolutions passed in the convention which was held on Saturday.

The 19th resolution aimed to strengthen unity among PN party members, empower solidarity within each party and enhance strategic cooperation among its representatives nationwide to consistently champion the welfare of the people based on the principles of the coalition’s struggle.
The 20th resolution on the other hand, addressed the efforts to strengthen the formulation of party strategies and actions, particularly those related to the well-being of the people.
It also was also to prepare potential candidates who were credible, clean, have integrity, free from corruption and remained loyal to the party’s cause in preparation for the 16th General Election (GE16).
Seven of the people’s representatives from Bersatu who supported the government were not invited to the convention.
Besides Zulkafperi, five other MPs who declared their support for Anwar were Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan) while the only assemblyman who supported Amirudin was Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari (Selat Klang).

However, Zulkafperi said he accepted and respected the party’s decision not to invite him to attend the convention, even though he remained a member of Bersatu, chairman of the party’s Tanjong Karang Division and a PN MP.
Meanwhile, Zahari said his commitment to champion the welfare of the people as outlined in the 19th and 20th resolutions was what led him to support the government.
“That’s what I’m doing now because I want to help the people even though I’m changing my support.
“If I had not done so, we would not receive assistance from the government and would not be able to help those in need.
“As soon as I became a representative, advocating for the welfare of the people became my duty,” he said.

Azizi urged for PN to genuinely implement the 19th and 20th resolutions to strengthen the party for the upcoming GE16.
“If we look at the 19th resolution, it’s good to unite Bersatu, Pas and Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (Gerakan) in PN because from what I see, there is no real unity in this coalition as each of them have different goals.
“So, for me, this is a positive step for PN to strengthen solidarity following its defeats in the by-elections and previous state elections due to this situation,” he said.
He said according to the 20th resolution which addressed the empowerment of potential candidates, was also good because previously, individuals who did not meet the criteria were brought forward as candidates.
“I don’t want to comment further, but what’s important is that I ask for what is contained in those 20 resolutions to be implemented by PN to ensure that the party can garner support from Malaysians in GE16,” he added.
