Perak Ruler wants stern action taken to prevent any attempts to spread disharmony

IPOH: Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah believes that the majority of Malaysians are rational, moderate, and place an emphasis on harmony and peace, says Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Dr Mohd Zahidi Zainuddin.

“His Royal Highness also gives his assurances of providing support and protection to all Malaysians of diverse races and religions in a fair manner,” the Orang Kaya Bendahara Seri Maharaja said in a statement Friday (March 29).

He added that this was so that every citizen can continue to live in harmony and peace by working together to build and develop a peaceful and prosperous Malaysia.

Sultan Nazrin, he said, had also voiced concerns over the rise in tensions following the Molotov cocktail attack on a KK Mart outlet in Bidor recently, and wanted stern action taken to prevent any attempts to spread racial disharmony.

Mohd Zahidi said that His Majesty had been informed about the incident by the police and had requested that the matter be given serious attention.

“His Royal Highness described the initial act that occurred as a worrying sign that should be given serious attention through decisive action so that the fires of racism are immediately contained and prevented from spreading more widely,” he said.

Mohd Zahidi also said that the Office of the Sultan of Perak had lodged a police report on Thursday (March 28) over a viral statement by a social media user using the “Amanah Membina Negara” name.

The viral statement takes a 19-year-old statement by Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzudin Shah (when he was Raja Muda Perak) during the Second Malay Education Congress on March 27, 2005, out of context.
He explained that throughout his address in 2005, Sultan Nazrin had not linked or expressed incitement against any race in this country.

“It is believed that there are parties at this time who choose to fan the flames of racism and religious issues to the point of relating Sultan Nazrin’s address out of context.

“In order to protect the good name of the Sultan of Perak from being dragged and tarnished by any party for their own agenda, the Office of the Sultan of Perak filed a police report on Thursday (March 28),” he said.

According to Mohd Zahidi, His Royal Highness is concerned about the unethical act of making racist statements by relating an out-of-context adress that was once given in the name of the Raja Muda Perak 19 years ago.

“It is irresponsible and has a direct effect on public order in the country,” he said.
