Don’t use my mother’s death for political gain, ex-Mahkota rep’s son tells PN
PETALING JAYA: The son of former Mahkota assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain has denied that his family will be holding tahlil prayers with the Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders and election workers next week.
Wan Hibatullah Abu Bakar said his family was never informed of such an arrangement.
“When is this supposed to happen? As her eldest child, I have no knowledge of it,” he said in a Facebook post.
Tahlil prayers are typically performed by family and friends as a way to honour the deceased and to seek forgiveness and blessings for them in the afterlife.
Wan Hibatullah also shared a screenshot of PAS deputy election chief Annuar Musa’s Facebook post which stated that the prayers would be held next Tuesday together with Sharifah’s family.

The former Ketereh MP also said that the event was part of PN’s planned programmes for the Mahkota by-election campaign and would involve other coalition leaders.
Wan Hibatullah urged all parties to respect his mother’s passing and not use their family’s grief for political gain.
“This is heartbreaking. Please be mindful of our family’s mourning,” he said.
Sharifah passed away on Aug 2 due to internal bleeding. As a result, the Mahkota by-election will be held on Sept 28 to fill the vacancy.
