After 2 months living in hall, 88 Orang Asli to be moved to govt quarters
PETALING JAYA: Seventeen Orang Asli families staying in a community hall since October after a landslide hit their homes in Sungai Ruil, Cameron Highlands, are to be relocated to nearby government quarters.
The Orang Asli development department (Jakoa) said the families will be moved there early next month after electricity and water supply issues at the premises are resolved.
For the long term, the department said, a preliminary investigation by the public works department (JKR) last month found that slope repair work at the affected area would take two years and cost over RM3 million.
“This includes strengthening and stabilising the slopes around the affected areas. This will be undertaken by JKR and work is expected to be completed in November 2025,” it said, according to Sinar Harian.
Yesterday, senator Ajis Sitin urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to step in and help the 88 Orang Asli who were forced to evacuate their homes and be sheltered at the community hall in Kampung Sungai Ruil on Oct 12.
