KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Unity Minister Senator K Saraswathy has dismissed claims suggesting she owes nearly RM200,000 in tax arrears.

“That’s fake news, I will take legal action against those spreading these documents,” the PKR vice-president informed Malaysiakini this evening.

According to a report by Malaysiakini, Saraswathy said she intents to file a police report against Tamil portal Makkal Osai tomorrow for disseminating “false information”.

“This marks the second occasion the news portal has circulated erroneous news about me. Hence, I am compelled to pursue legal recourse,” she said.

The portal claimed to have obtained documents, including a temporary permit for overseas travel issued by the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to Saraswathy.

The documents purportedly included a letter addressed to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Razarudin Husain and IRB director-general Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, stating that the temporary permit was granted for Saraswathy’s medical travel abroad.

A query on the Immigration Department website using the Mykad number provided in the documents yielded a response directing to the nearest immigration office.

Saraswathy confirmed the Mykad number in the documents matched her own.

The IRB has also been reached out for additional clarification on the issue.
