PETALING JAYA: The remand order for a former political secretary to a former minister and a “Datuk Seri” has been extended to Jan 30, according to sources.

The remand order was obtained after a request to the Putrajaya Magistrate’s Court was approved by Magistrate Ain Nurshahira Sahzan on Saturday (Jan 27).

Both suspects are currently being investigated for allegedly receiving kickbacks from several companies that acquired tenders from a ministry.

Both were remanded for four days from Jan 24 to assist investigations.

They were believed to have received kickbacks between 2020 and 2021 amounting to millions of ringgit.
“Throughout the investigations, the MACC has seized several luxury vehicles belonging to the suspects,” sources said.

Among the seized vehicles include a Rolls Royce Ghost and two Mercedes-Benz cars.

“It is believed that these were obtained from the kickbacks from tenders linked to the involved ministry,” the source added.

When contacted, MACC senior director of special operations Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman confirmed the remand extension, adding that the case is currently being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009.
