KUALA LUMPUR: Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng and a lawyer have called for Putrajaya to take action against a politician and his wife over their alleged involvement in a gang robbery.

Lim and Guok Ngek Seong, the lawyer representing the victim, a Chinese national, said the politician was an active member of one of the parties in the unity government.

They, however, refused to identify the man and his wife.

“The victim wants the attorney-general to look into the possibility of charging the remaining two suspects who are instrumental in the case,” Guok told a press conference today.

On Dec 13, two Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers pleaded not guilty in the sessions court to charges of robbing a Chinese businessman two years ago.

Guok added that the police, after their investigations, had recommended charging both individuals and the other three MACC officers.

He said all five suspects were arrested after a police report was lodged on the robbery that happened on Dec 10, 2021.

“The victim expresses his deep gratitude for the high efficiency shown by police in solving the case and apprehending the suspects.

“However, if these (two) who are responsible are not brought to justice, the image and reputation of the country and justice system might be impacted.”

Guok also said the alleged involvement of the couple was obvious because the MACC officers would not have knowledge of the money in the victim’s house without a tip-off.

Lim said this was the second time he had received a complaint of MACC officers robbing businessmen at luxurious condominiums.

He said the perpetrators used the excuse of raiding or investigating a case to enter the victims’ houses before robbing them.

Lim then questioned the attorney-general’s chambers (AGC) on the reasons for the prolonged period before charging the three MACC officers.

He said the case only started moving after he wrote a letter to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said, while the other 30 letters he had written to various authorities over the past two years had not been met with positive action.

“What took you so long? The AGC owes the victim and the public an explanation over this delay.”
