PETALING JAYA: Immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud has been transferred to the Prime Minister’s Department.

He will take charge of the legal affairs division as its director-general effective today, Bernama reported.

Khairul confirmed the transfer in a press conference, adding that it was a normal procedure.

“The transfer was made known a month ago because I have served in the position for four years and that is a long duration to serve as the director-general of a sensitive department,” he said.

Speaking about his new appointment, Khairul said the position involved the handling of a few high profile legal issues, including the claims made by the self-proclaimed heirs of the last Sulu sultan.

Khairul joined the civil service in December 1996, and was appointed as the immigration director-general on Jan 14, 2019. He had also served in various ministries, including as the home ministry’s deputy chief secretary (policy and control).

He will be replaced by national registration department director-general Ruslin Jusoh.

Home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail had introduced Ruslin as the new immigration chief during the ministry’s monthly meeting this morning.
