KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Umno treasurer Tengku Zafrul Aziz has said he will leave it to the state’s party leadership to decide whether he will be contesting the state polls later this year.
“This is all up to the party leadership of the state. You have to ask Selangor Umno chief Megat Zulkarnain Omardin,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after attending the Asia Digital Engineering Sdn Bhd’s investment partnership signing ceremony, here.
When asked whether he would be named as the menteri besar candidate for Selangor, Tengku Zafrul said: “I will leave it all up to the party. I have no comment on that.”
Earlier this month, sources told FMT that the investment, trade and industry minister was likely to be given a fairly safe Malay-majority urban seat.

An insider said Pakatan Harapan was expected to hand over at least five “safe” seats to Barisan Nasional in a strategic move designed to keep the unity government intact.
Among the seats identified include Sungai Pelek, Kota Kemuning, Dusun Tua, and Dengkil.
These are mainly Malay-majority seats with a high number of Chinese voters.
In the last general election, Tengku Zafrul stood in Kuala Selangor but lost the parliamentary seat to Dzulkefly Ahmad of PH.
