GEORGE TOWN: The modus operandi of the suspects was to process drugs in a double-storey house and then store the drugs in the boots of vehicles, which were parked at various locations to avoid suspicion.
However, the arrest of the first suspect, 27, believed to be the mastermind of the syndicate, led police to the house, which was used as a drug-processing laboratory in Bayan Lepas.
Penang police chief Datuk Khaw Kok Chin said drugs and equipment worth RM2.06mil were seized after police busted the drug lab and crippled the syndicate.
“The syndicate is believed to have operated since early this year and the drugs were distributed for the local market and linked to syndicates from other states.
“Four local men, aged between 27 and 33, were arrested in six raids launched within four days in Penang,” he said at a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters in Penang Road here yesterday.

Khaw said the drugs were left in the boots of the vehicles and would only be retrieved when there was a demand.

Six cars and two motorcycles worth a total of RM157,500 were confiscated in the raids.
Police also found four packets of caffeine powder weighing 94kg worth RM32,100, RM1,660 in cash, jewellery worth RM32,435 and various equipment as well as cooking utensils and chemicals used to process the drugs.
“Urine tests on the suspects found them all to be negative for drugs but two of them have drug and criminal records,” Khaw added.
All four suspects have been remanded for seven days until Oct 27 under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
