PETALING JAYA: Cuepacs has slammed a suggestion for a committee to be formed in order to monitor civil servants who criticise the government.

Its president, Adnan Mat, described such an effort as a waste of resources. He also stressed that civil servants remain professional in carrying out their duties as the backbone of the administration.

“Surely each civil servant has their own political ideology but Cuepacs can guarantee that they are very professional and neutral in carrying out their responsibilities,” he said in a statement.

Adnan added that in a democracy, civil servants have the right to have personal opinions without being coerced by anyone, including when casting ballots in an election.

He said a committee should only be formed for crucial matters, such as raising the standard of living. He also advised politicians not to drag civil servants into politics to serve their own interests.

Yesterday, Johor PKR delegate Haryati Abu Nasir said she was concerned about the trend of teachers not supporting the government.

Speaking at the PKR congress, she urged the education ministry to create a monitoring committee to keep an eye on teachers and identify why they opposed the government.
