Perak MB to present state Budget this Friday

IPOH: The tabling of the 2024 Supply Enactment Bill (RUU) for the state by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad (pic) will be the focus of the Perak State Legislative Assembly sitting starting this Friday (Dec 1).

Perak state assembly Speaker Datuk Mohammad Zahir Abdul Khalid said all state assemblymen will be given the opportunity to participate in the debate with the time allocated to the government and the opposition leader being 40 minutes each, while other assemblymen get 20 minutes each.

“The debate session is scheduled to start at the second sitting on Monday Dec 4, 2023. There will be no private motions, no surprises (for this conference), we are waiting for the budget from the state government.

“I think this is the first budget by the state’s Unity Government. Last year’s budget was held immediately after the general election, so this should be exciting,” he said at a press conference related to the First Year’s Fifth Meeting of the 15th State Assembly in Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, here today.

Mohammad Zahir said the Perak State Assembly sitting will provide four large LED screens to make it easier for the assemblymen to see the budget presentation infographics ‘live’ instead of previously through live streaming on Facebook and YouTube.

Mohammad Zahir said the sitting will take place from Dec 1 to 8, which is six days, and the oral question session will be held for 60 minutes, compared to the previous 90 minutes to give more time to the debate.

At the same time, Mohammad Zahir said that for the second bill, the Enactment of Perak Muslim Wills 2023 will also be brought up by the Menteri Besar with six assemblymen involved in the debate of the bill.

“We also have a oral session this afternoon related to the Enactment of Wills,” he said.

On July 20 last year, the Perak State Assembly sitting approved a private motion related to the Enactment of Perak Muslim Wills to preserve the welfare of orphans in the state.

The public can follow live streaming throughout the sitting over YouTube channel of the Perak State Assembly and the link will be displayed through the official portal of the Perak State Government as well as the official Facebook page of the Perak State Secretary’s Office throughout the day of the sitting. – Bernama
