I did not threaten Pendang MP in recorded five minute phone call, says Bukit Gantang MP

PETALING JAYA: It was merely a five minute phone call and there weren’t even any threats, said Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal in denying allegations that he intimidated Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim.

Syed Abu said Awang should lodge a police report and he will make public the contents of the five minute phone call, which he said was recorded.

“Lodge a police report and I will reveal it. There aren’t any elements of threats,” said Syed Abu when contacted.

Earlier Thursday (Nov 30), Awang claimed in parliament that he was threatened by Syed Abu and his family members.

Awang’s accusation against Syed Hussin came after the Bukit Gantang MP declared support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday (Nov 28).

Asked how many more Bersatu MPs are set to switch allegiance to Anwar, Syed Abu said there will be several more MPs doing so.

“Between five to six MPs,” said Syed Abu briefly.

Syed Abu said he knows that Awang is unhappy with him because he had openly declared support to Anwar.

“Pendang is unhappy because I openly declared support. But at the same time, they are also trying to topple the government.

“For them, it is ok to support a Perikatan government, but it is not okay for a Perikatan leader to support the government of the day.” said Syed Abu.

Syed Abu advised Perikatan Nasional MPs to set aside their egos and negotiate for constituency development funds with the unity government.

“When the government is ready to negotiate, you negotiate. They only asked for allocations in Parliament. They should’ve negotiated it,” added Syed Abu.

Syed Abu also said Perikatan MPs should speak with more manners in Parliament.

“They speak so rudely (in public). They have no shame to the people,” added Syed Abu.

Over the recent weeks, five Bersatu MPs have switched allegiances to Anwar, namely Syed Abu, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.

Iskandar and Suhaili said they switched allegiances to Anwar to gain extra allocations for their constituencies.

Zahari and Mohd Azizi also said they supported the unity government to ensure constituency development funds to their respective constituencies.

Bersatu leaders have claimed that there were agents who were enticing MPs to switch allegiances.

However, the five Bersatu MPs who declared support for Anwar denied such allegations and stated that they supported the government on their own freewill.
