KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court was told that the final witness in Najib Razak’s 1MDB trial is not able to attend court to testify as scheduled, today and next week.
Deputy public prosecutor Kamal Bahrin Omar said Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigating officer Nur Aida Arifin had tested positive for Covid-19 and is under quarantine until Dec 18.
He said that another witness, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) analyst Adam Ariff Roslan is also under surveillance today as he is a close contact.
Adam will be called to the witness stand on Monday, Kamal said.
Earlier today, Bukit Aman commercial crime investigation department (CCID) investigating officer Foo Wei Min completed his testimony.
Foo told the court that former 1MDB chief investment officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil was given a mandate to manage Najib’s accounts.
Under the mandate, Nik Faisal was authorised to confirm cheques worth up to RM250 million, the witness said.
Najib is standing trial on 25 charges of abuse of power and money laundering over alleged 1MDB funds amounting to RM2.28 billion deposited in his AmBank accounts between February 2011 and December 2014.
The hearing continues before Justice Collin Lawrence Sequerah.
