Ex-PM, 2 former aides to be summoned by MACC
PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission will summon a former prime minister and two aides in its probe into three separate cases of alleged misappropriation of funds.
A source who spoke on condition of anonymity told FMT the aides were attached to two different prime ministers.
One investigation will focus on the wealth allegedly accumulated by the wife and children of one of the former top leaders, the second probe is linked to a petroleum company, and the third connected to monies spent on advertising.
“These three individuals will be called in this week,” the source said.
Earlier today, Utusan Malaysia reported that an MP from an east coast state and his aide would be called in to facilitate an investigation under the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (Amla) and the MACC Act 2009.
The daily also reported that one of the individuals had allegedly awarded projects involving public funds to certain people when he was administering the country.
The probe into the trio comes in the wake of MACC’s investigation into former finance minister Daim Zainuddin.
Daim is being investigated for alleged corruption and money laundering, and the 60-storey Ilham Tower in Kuala Lumpur, reportedly belonging to him and his family, has been seized in connection with the investigation.
Daim has denied any wrongdoing or corruption. He also hit out at Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and MACC for their “witch- hunt” against him and his family.
