Covid-19: Malaysia detects 847 new cases bringing total to 5,017,863

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia recorded 847 new Covid-19 infections on Sunday (Dec 18), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 5,017,863 since the pandemic began.The Health Ministry’s KKMNow portal reported that 845 of Sunday’s new Covid-19 infections were locally transmitted while there were two imported cases.

The portal also reported that recoveries outpaced new infections on Sunday, with 1,154 individuals recovering from Covid-19.

This brings the total number of recoveries in the country to 4,965,321 since the pandemic began.

According to KKMNow, as at 11.59pm Sunday, there are 15,736 active Covid-19 infections in the country, with 14,724, or 93.6%, observing home quarantine.

Some 963 Covid-19 patients, or 6.1% of active cases, were being treated in hosptial as at 11.59pm Sunday, with 49, or 0.3%, warded in intensive care units (ICU) nationwide.

Of those in ICU on Sunday, 23 did not require ventilator support while 26 were ventilated.

Malaysia’s current ICU utilisation rate, as at 11.59pm Sunday, stood at 65%, while the overall hospital utilisation rate stood at 70.4%.

The Health Ministry’s GitHub data repository showed that there were six deaths due to Covid-19 on Monday, bringing the total number of fatalities in Malaysia to 36,806 since the pandemic began.

The data repository showed that Johor and Perak recorded two Covid-19 deaths each, while there was one death each recorded in Pahang and Perlis.
