The last time the Prime Minister attended an open house held by the Barisan Nasional component party was when he was Deputy Prime Minister before he was sacked from the post in 1998.

Anwar arrived at Wisma MCA for the party’s annual open house at 9.30am today, along with his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, both of whom were clad in bright pink batik outfits.

On their arrival, they were greeted by MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and treated to a short lion dance performance.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi; Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan; Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil; Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing; and MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan.

Later, Anwar, Wan Azizah, Zahid and Wee shared the stage for a photo session. The special guests were then presented with a basket of mandarin oranges.

This is the first festive gathering involving the unity government after the Nov 19 general elections last year.
