Malaysian Film Directors Association’s president Ahmad Ibrahim dies after a month in ICU

KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Malaysian Film Directors Association’s (FDAM) president, Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, 74, passed away at 5.57am this morning.

The news was revealed by one of his sons, Salmany Akir Ahmad via Facebook which was also shared on FDAM’s official Facebook page.

Ahmad, also known as Mat London, was admitted to the Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL)’s intensive care unit (ICU) since June 13 due to infected lungs and was reported to be in critical condition.

Salmany told portal Berita Harian that Ahmad’s condition has worsened since being admitted.

“Due to his worsening condition yesterday, the doctor has called all family members to gather here.

“I arrived at the hospital around 10.30pm last night. My siblings and I were beside him when he breathed his last just after subuh azan.

“His condition was deteriorating after three days in HKL where he had to be put to sleep. He was in a coma for about a month before he passed away,” Salmany said.

He added that Ahmad, who also had a heart problem, had previously been in a coma a few years back.

Ahmad’s remains will be taken to Taman Melawati mosque and is expected to be buried at Taman Melawati cemetery.

Ahmad who’s also an actor is known for his role as Pak Karim in local drama series Kampung Pisang Bersiri-siri.

He also appeared in several films directed by the late Mamat Khalid such as 18 Puasa di Kampung Pisang and Kampung Pisang Berbuah Dua Kali.
