The EPF says action will be taken based on its internal policy over a tweet posted by an employee on Deepavali day.

PETALING JAYA: The EPF says it will act against one of its staff members for a racist rant on Deepavali day which saw netizens taking her to task.

It said the employee had provided an explanation to the management and action would be taken according to EPF’s internal policy.

“We acknowledge the gravity of the situation and are genuinely saddened by its occurrence. The EPF does not condone any form of discrimination or inappropriate behaviour.

“We remain committed to maintaining a workplace that upholds the highest standards of respect and inclusivity,” the EPF told FMT.

In her tweet on Nov 12, the woman used the derogatory term “keling” on Hindus and said that the sound of fireworks on Deepavali was reminding her of the bombings in Gaza and the plight of the Palestinians.
“Now listening to the keling-keling in Kapar playing with fireworks makes me feel angry. It’s deafening and the people want to sleep!” she posted on X, formerly Twitter.

An apology posted by the woman for her rant.

Many netizens responded angrily to her tweet, accusing her of picking on Hindus when all other races also light up fireworks for their celebrations.

One also posted screenshots of five previous posts where she had referred to Indians as “keling” and insulted them, including by calling them stupid and smelly.

The woman posted an apology the following day, admitting that she had made the comments without thinking, and wished all Hindus a happy Deepavali.

“I am truly sorry to my Hindu friends. I will take this as a lesson and be more careful after this. I am sorry again and happy Deepavali to you guys,” she said in her post.
